    Description

Willem De Kooning (1904-1997)  authentic work on paper circa 14 x 9.5 inches, signed lower right "De Kooning" drawing of a woman mixed media (crayon) fantastic work (you cannot tell if it is the front or the woman or seen from behind); some stain damage to the upper left corner; after De Kooning moved to Springs (East Hampton) circa 1961 he made many drawings sometimes using his left hand sometimes his right hand; sometimes while watching TV sometimes with his eyes shut -- these works are very well known; provenance: Samuel Kootz had a close relationship with all the abstract expressionist artists and tried to help them financially (the prices were very low in the 1950's and 1960's for abstract expressionism  (Christies and Sothebys only sold the Old Masters and Van Gogh and Picasso and did not even sell American art until circa 1974 !!!!!!!! DeKooning did not have his first high priced sale until 1973 when Ernst Breyler (the art dealer who founded the Art Basel Art Fair) paid circa 7,000 for Police Gazette (a 1955 urban landscape painting oil on canvas) (Steve Cohen paid million for it in 2006) the Kootz Gallery closed in 1966 and circa 1972 Kootz sent a large collection of abstract expressionist paintings to a California collector, private collection.
