  • Condition: Very Good-Excellent overall vint cond: Offered for your review & consideration is this estate fresh & truly magnificent & unblemished oil on artist board period painting by American artist L. H. McConnell & dated 1910, of an English Setter sporting dog in the field. It's still in its orig period gold gilt pressed/stamped wooden frame, w/a paper picture framer's label still affixed to the back of the wood frame. The oil surface of the painting is largely free of noticeable abrasions, scuffs, creases, pushes, tears, paint loss, foxing, mildew or water damage. It has a fairly flat, matte finish & if the oil painting was at some point varnished, that varnish has now diminished & matted back. The frame is also in very good cond & appears to be orig to the painting. The English Setter sporting dog is incredibly well realized & the artist was clearly familiar w/this particular breed of English sporting dog. It looks to his right in a poised, paused, prone position. Terrific.
