    Description

An Historic Account of the Construction of Hoover Dam National Park (Prepared in cooperation with the United States Department Of The Interior, Bureau of Reclamation.). Published in 1976 by KC Publications. Condition is "New".
Hoover Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the U.S. states of Nevada and Arizona. It was constructed between 1931 and 1936 during the Great Depression when thousands of men and their families came to Black Canyon to tame the Colorado River. Amazingly, it took less than five years to complete, in a harsh and barren land, which was to be the largest dam of its time. It was dedicated on September 30, 1935, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Its construction was the result of a massive effort involving thousands of workers, and cost over one hundred lives. Originally known as Boulder Dam from 1933, it was officially renamed Hoover Dam for President Herbert Hoover by a joint resolution of Congress in 1947.
The Dam is a testimony to a country's ability to construct monolithic projects in the midst of extreme conditions. Now, years later, Hoover Dam still stands as a world-renowned structure. The Dam is a National Historic Landmark and has been rated by the American Society of Civil Engineers as one of America's Seven Modern Civil Engineering Wonders.
