    Description

    26” x 22”oil on canvas - unframed.
Part of the “Moments of What We Lost” collection.
Beautifully executed oil painting by Oneida artist Bruce King (1950-2019).
Part of a three piece collection entitled “Moments of What We Lost” which will be offered.
This work is titled “Early Morning Pony Raid” and was purchased directly from the artist in 2005.
My wife and I, along with Bruce, named the work while enjoying cocktails and discussing Native American history, traditions and our heritages. My mother was half Native American and Bruce helped me understand why it was so very difficult to get my grandmother and mother to discuss our heritage.
Bruce was an icon in the world of Southwestern fine art and helped define the current contemporary style of Native American art. His brush walked that fine line between the spiritual and real worlds. He was able to capture the forces of nature that played an important part in the way things were and still are. His paintings derive as much of their depth, strength and artistic integrity from his Oneida heritage and personal experiences during a historical period of turmoil and change as from his exposure to great artists (Charles Loloma, Allan Houser and Fritz Scholder) who were instructors at the IAIA where he attended in the late1960’s.Returns accepted only if item not as described.
I miss him greatly but it is time to allow someone else to become the caretaker of his work.
I am a long time collector of Native Americana and will be offering many fine and rare items over the following months including items from artists including Maria Martinez, TONY DA, Rondina Huma, Jake Koopee, Autumn Borts-Medlock and more. Good luck and stay tuned.
