LUBRICATION CHART FOR FOREI GN CARS
Included in this Mobilubrication Bulletin is the latest lubrication servicing information on the more
popular makes of cars manufactured abroad and used in the United States and Canada or exported in large num-
bers. The tabulations on pages 2, 3 and 4 show lubrication recommendations for engine, transmission and rear
axle, capacities in U.S. measure for these units as well as for the cooling system and fuel tank. On page 5,
information is given concerning the lubrication of the chassis and engine accessories.

Some manufacturers recommend engine oils for lubricating sliding gear type transmissions. In the
interest of having uniform recommendations for similar gears in the same type of service as well as considering
the availability of dispensing equipment, all transmission and rear axle recommendations - except for auto-
matic transmissions - are shown in grades of Mobilube GX.

EXPLANATORY NOTES AND SERVICING INFORMATION
ENGINE
ABOVE 32°F.: Recommendations for normal operation in temperatures above 32°F. are shown in the column
headed "Above 32°F.".
ABOVE +10°F: Recommendations when lowest expected temperature is +10°F. are shown in the column
headed "Above +10°F,".
ABOVE - 10°F: When lowest expected temperature is -10°F. use Mobiloil 10W.
TRANSMISSIONS AND RE AR AXLES
ABOVE 32°F.: Recommendations shown in "Above 32°F." column are for normal operation where atmospheric
temperatures are above 32°F.
ABOVE 0°F.: Use recommendations in this column for normal winter service. For temperatures below OF.,
use Mobilube GX 80.
WHEEL BEARINGS
Lubricate front and rear wheel bearings with Mobilgrease No. 5 or MP.
UNIVERSAL JOINTS AND PROPELLER SHAFT SPLINES
Use Mobilgrease No. 2 or MP for cross type universal joints and Mobilgrease No. 5 or MP for the enclosed type.
For all splines use Mobilgrease No. 2 or MP. Use Mobilgrease No. 4 or MP on DKW.
STEERING GEARS
Use Mobilube GX 90, except DKW, Peugeot, Renault Dauphine and Citroen. Keep filled to level of filler open-
ing. Use Mobilgrease No. 2 or MP on Peugeot and Renault Dauphine, Use Mobilube GX 140 on DKW. Steer-
ing gear on Citroen sealed and requires no additional lubrication.
CHASSIS LUBRICANT
For chassis parts, general lubrication recommendations are as follows: Service pressure fittings with Mobil-
grease No. 2 or MP. For centralized chassis lubricating system, keep tank filled with Mobiloil A. Where
grease cups are provided (except on water pumps) keep filled with Mobilgrease No. 5 or MP. Hand Oiling -
Points such as top bushing of steering column, clevis pins and levers, gas throttle and spark control linkage
(except rubber parts) should be lubricated with Mobiloil Arctic. Rubber Parts - Where these parts require
lubrication, use Mobil Rubber Lubricant.
SPRINGS
For covered type use Mobilgrease No. 2. For open type use Mobiloil Arctic except where inserts are employed,
when no lubrication is required.
FANS AND WATER PUMPS
Where fans and water pumps are lubricated through pressure fittings and grease cups, Mobilgrease MP is recom-
mended; except where ball bearings (outboard type) are employed and no contact is made with the cooling water,
use Mobilgrease No. 5 or MP. For oil cups and oil lubricated types, use Mobiloil Arctic.
DISTRIBUTORS
Where equipped with grease cups or pressure fitting, use Mobilgrease No. 5 or MP; oil cups or oil holes, use
Mobiloil Arctic. Apply a very light film of Mobilgrease No. 5 or MP to the distributor cam. Apply one or two
drops of Mobiloil Arctic to the wick under rotor and also to breaker pivot.
AIR CLEANERS
Wash metal gauze of all filters with Sovasol No. 5. Dry thoroughly. Do not wash or oil felt pads in cover.
OIL BATH TYPE - Do not re-oil metal gauze, but thoroughly clean reservoir and fill to correct level with
Mobiloil AF. OIL ELEMENT TYPE - Re-oil metal gauze filter with Mobiloil AF. PAPER ELEMENT TYPE -
Shake dirt from element at least every 1000 miles. Replace element every 10,000 miles.
GENERATORS AND STARTERS
Where equipped with oil cups or oil holes, use Mobiloil Arctic. If equipped with grease cups, use Mobilgrease
No. 5 or MP. Use lubricant sparingly.
HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS
Citroen DS19 used on hydraulic central device which assists in operating brakes, suspension, steering gear
and transmission. Mobil Hydraulic Brake Fluid may be used for make-up or when the Citroen fluid is not
available.
